Special Event

Dia de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead Celebration at the Library! - Saturday, October 26, 2:00-5:00 pm

Even though Dia de Los Muertos actually falls on November 2, the library will be celebrating this holiday early along with the end of Hispanic Heritage Month October 15. This event will be held in the library's community room and registration will be required. This program is recommended for children ages 8-12 years old. Included in the program will be the PG rated movie Coco, refreshments, games, and craft activities. Participants will begin by making their own sugar skull puppets, then use them to play a trivia game about Dia de Los Muertos. After trivia, children will watch Coco while enjoying refreshments partially donated by Nora's Empanada Factory. With the time remaining for the program, La Pirinola will be played and finished off with designing and decorating mini pinatas.

Staffing: One children's librarian and 10 volunteers will be available to do set up, get the materials ready, organize the refreshment table, and take down everything.

Budget: If not included in the subscription fee, the movie will cost around $100. Refreshments will be partially donated by Nora's Empanada Factory, but drinks and decorations will cost around $50. Materials for the crafts will mostly already be supplied by the library, but new items needed to buy will cost about $60. Total amount: $210.
